Fruggin Hell!
Would you believe I've been offered two jobs this week - This afternoon actually

I really dont know what to do.
Should I go with the role that I had my heart set on and feel safe with or should I step up and accept the other role which I'll learn so much more from?!

ETA: The two roles are totally different from one another - The Marketing Company role is an internal HR Role which covers off everything the other role is a Candidate Manager in a Recruitment Agency which will be constant recruitment.

Im confused because I dont know if I want to just stick with general HR or if I want to stop with the HR all together an just focus on what I do best and thats Recruitment.
I know in the long term that the role with the marketing company will offer more opportunities and come with a greater responsibility where as the Recruitment role will focus on in the long run becoming an internal recruitment consultant and constantly working to KPI's and sales.

I think the worst thing is Ive built this "vibe" friendship with the two people who Ive been meeting with at the Recruitment Agency and I'd almost feel like im letting them down if I didn't accept!

  1. Hmmm...I say you accept the one you're going to learn so much more from =)

  2. This is a great conundrum to have!!

Weigh up some pros and cons, and listen to what your gut/heart tells you... :D

  3. That's a hard one...I usually go for the one that makes me uncomfortable, pushes me in my career. Even if I don't feel like I can do it.

  4. What is your gut feeling telling you about what is best for you? Why did you have your heart set on the one role, is it just because it's what you know and you didn't expect to get the other one?

Congrats on the jobs, I hope it's as easy for me when I eventually quit!!! :)

    1. The one I got first was a role I went for about 6 weeks ago and I was 100% sold by the second interview then they had some headcount issues so I decided to shop around an see what else was out there, then this other opportunity came up and they've been come back to me at the same time!

  5. Congratulations on your two job offers!! If your heart was set on a position then it would seem like your heart knows. On the other hand, only you know whether your heart was just playing it safe!

  6. Ooohoh tricky!

Are the companies very different? If so, go with the one that is bigger, has more opportunities, and better training opportunities. That can add years to your tenure, even if the initial job isn't your first choice.

  7. What the others have said!
Personally, I'd go for career advancement and more cash over safe and comfortable. But if you think you'll fit the other role & workplace better then go with that one. I can attest to how important it is to fit well with a company!

  8. That's a great situation to be in, and I doubt either will be a bad choice. I guess you need to weigh it all up and go with what your gut tells you. I've always been one to take the familiar road as I don't deal with change well, but it's always good trying something new as well. Learning new skills will always be a good thing for your career! Good luck in deciding lucky girl!

  9. ah, that is a hard place to be! Also a great place to be- two choices for a career!

I don't think there's a right answer- there are just different paths and pluses and minuses to both.

If I were making this decision I would base it off a 5-year plan. Will saving more money and being comfortable and secure help you be where you want to be in 5 years, or will this risk pay-off in that time. That's what I would do.

Good luck either way, so excited for you!

  10. I vote Marketing Company role.
But you should make some pro/con lists. Or lists of things you want and tick them off.
    Future opportunities
    Experience to be gained
    Current Responsibilities
    Workplace atmosphere
Office location (it matters if there is a big difference in getting there and the food nearby)

With each, work out where you think u'd be in 5 years time. And factor that into your decision as well.

  11. Oh wow, what a tough spot you've found yourself in! But a blessing too, don't forget that..

I think go with the position that you love, the one that you'd feel most inspired in, happy at and comfortable doing... Not sure that's any help but I reckon if you take time out and think things through then you'll know which one to pick! And hopefully it's the one that your heart will desire most!

But listen to Miss Direction's direction too {pun intended ;)}She seem to have put out the logical aspects to consider!

  12. i would go with the one that would offer you a more stable environment... i lean more towards the marketing one.
